Ingredients
2 cups Bowl & Basket all-purpose flour
2 cups Bowl & Basket granulated sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1⁄4 tsp salt
1 cup water
1 cup (2 sticks) Bowl & Basket unsalted butter, cut into cubes
1⁄3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 Bowl & Basket eggs
1⁄2 cup Bowl & Basket buttermilk
1 1⁄2 tsp vanilla
Chocolate frosting, for topping (optional)
Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a 9x9 inch square baking pan with aluminum foil. Spray the foil with cooking spray and set aside.

 

2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar baking soda, and salt. Whisk well and set aside.

 

3. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine water and butter. Heat for 30-second intervals until the butter is melted and the mixture is steaming. Whisk in cocoa powder until smooth.

 

4. Pour this into the bowl with the flour and whisk until well combined before whisking in the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Stir well so that no lumps remain, then pour into the prepared pan.

 

5. Bake for 25-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with just a few crumbs on it. The center should no longer wiggle.

 

6. Let cool completely before topping with chocolate frosting (if desired), cutting into squares, and serving.
